Cape May Winery & Vineyard

June 5th 2021

We're in bloom, baby!

This is the most important time of the growing season! Bloom, or flowering, is when a grape vine self-pollinates by spawning flowers in the fruit zone. Each flower has the potential to become a grape, which why it is so important to fend off disease at this stage of the growing season. After bloom is fruit set. That is when a successful fertilization occurs and seed formation starts. You will start to see little berries during this time!
*Vineyard Fact: One reason why wine grapes like drier climates is because wetness and cold temperatures can damage the flowers. This can affect quality and lead to lower yields.
